What Makes You Subscribe to a Mom Blog?

by POM on January 22, 2010

image of we can do it lady with laptopA question bloggers have been asking since the beginning of blogging.  And there is no shortage of answers out there.  Simply google the question ‘what makes you subscribe to a blog?‘ and thousands of results appear.

And if you’re the type of blogger who wants subscribers, you’ve probably already done this.  I’m betting though, even after you learn the answers and put them into practice, you find yourself still asking, “What the heck makes people subscribe to a blog?”

So since it’s Friday, and I’m still in the process of putting together a regular blogging schedule for The Pursuit of Mommyness, today presents a good opportunity to just throw out a burning question in hopes of starting a dialogue…because that benefits me and it benefits you.

If you’re wondering why POM has been focusing lately on blogging stuff.  The answer is POM is first and foremost a supporter of housewives, stay at home moms and mompreneurs.  Many women who fall into those categories, are also bloggers, either for business or pleasure.  And as such, they are always looking for ways to become a better blogger.

I’m thinking of even designating a day each week for blogging related posts, so we can all share and learn.  Let me know what you think!

So instead of rambling on for several more paragraphs as I usually do…I think I will stop yappin’ and open the floor to you!

Please share your thoughts, feedback, personal experiences, complaints, bragging or what have you.  All of it’s good and all if it’s welcomed.

I personally follow people’s blogs to find inspiration during my days! As a mom of a 1 1/2 year old, and 6 months pregnant, it can be hard to find a reason to keep vacuuming the same rug over and over again! I like reading about what other people do with their kids, and how they overcome those emotional days that we all have! It also helps to remind me that I am not alone in what I do. Being a SAHM is a wonderful thing, sometimes I just need to be reminded of it!

I love post/bloggers that uplift me, make me smile, and most of all…make me think “oh thank GAWD it’s not just ME!” :)

I have a few criterion that I use. First, it has to be a blog that is about topics that are appealing and relevant to me. Then, it must be well written and entertaining, and thought provoking. If it has that, I’m hooked! (-:

I know right away if I want to follow someone; it’s a mix of subject, humour, atmosphere and easiness. Not very specific I know but I’m brain dead today. :O)

I follow a ton of blogs…each one draws me in for a specific reason, whether it’s their amazing sense of humor or they’re ability to draw me in with deep thoughts or inspiration.

I get something out of each and every blog I follow. Initially what attracts me to a blog is the blogger’s relatability…you know, how much can I relate to them and what’s going on in their lives? How does it parallel with my own life? Can I learn something from reading their blog or maybe even just find someone who understands the challenges of daily life and motherhood.

Anyway, it’s an interesting topic for discussion! I saw your comment on SITS and the first thing that caught my eye was The Fox and Goose!! I used to go there all the time when I lived in Sacramento!! Such a fun place with the best breakfast foods!!!!

Hope you’re having a great day (and enjoyed your breakfast – I’m envious, as I sit here munching on a stale bagel!)

I love love LOVE your blog! Seriously.

What makes me follow a mom blog…well, first they have to have a sense of humor. I also love a Mom who isn’t afraid to post the “bad” days. It happens to all of us. And being real is what makes me feel connected to other moms.

I also love any mom who has some of the same interests {besides our kids}–ie wine {hello lover!}, shopping, movies, books, clothes–anything! As long as we have one thing in common :)

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I heart yours and am your newest follower. Yay!

Coming from two of my favorite peeps above (Chelle and Helene) the only thing I need to follow is if I relate to the content. If I can connect with another blogger based on what they are writing, I will be hooked.

And you are TOTALLY in at Theta Mom! So glad that you will join us Thursday!!! Yay POM!!!

I subscribe to blogs that make me smile, make me feel less alone or can teach me something.

Stopping by from SITS!

I love blogs that make me laugh, and of course I love hearing stories from other mothers! I also love to go back and visit blogs when I’ve made a connection with the author. It becomes more like reading the post of a good friend rather than some blogger you’ve never met!

Your blog is so awesome, and I think that you are well on your way to having tons of faithful followers! I know I’m one of ‘em!

BTW…I’m adding you to my blog roll today. :)

I follow blogs that either make me laugh, cry or just plain think about things. I nice clean blog design doesn’t hurt either. I just found you thru Theta Mom and you’re most definitely fits the bill.

I follow a ton of blogs because the reciprocal following is big in the blog world. I read some of the blogs I follow because they are well written and I relate in some small way to the topics they choose.

Just found your website through Theta mom. Love this post. I subscribe to blogs or follow them if I can relate to their content. It doesn’t have to be mom related, I like reading all sorts of things. I am also following you now.
